Rafting

The New River offers whitewater rafting for all skill levels and the Gauley River, billed by many whitewater rafting enthusiasts as 'The Beast of the East', gives the experienced rafter a thrill. Southern West Virginia has numerous rafting companies that can accommodate all of your needs from rafting trips, food, camping, and including overnight trips on the rivers. Your premier rafting experience is only 30 minutes from The Cabins at Pine Haven.

Skiing

Ski season at Winterplace Ski Resort begins early December and ends in late March. There are 28 trails and a terrain park located on 90 acres approximately 15 minutes from The Cabins at Pine Haven. If you're not up for trying the slopes on traditional skis, then try the tubing park with 16 lanes or snowboarding in the terrain park. If you're ready to relax away from the action on the slopes then check out one of the restaurants or lounges located on the resort. Winterplace Ski Resort has everything you need from top-of-the-line skis and new snowboards to ski slopes ranging from 41 percent to 15 percent inclines. Come and check it out this winter.

Golf

Raleigh County has many beautiful mountain golf courses within close distance. A few of the public courses include the Cobb Course at Glade Spring, Grandview Golf Club, White Oak Country Club, Bridgehaven Golf Course, Beaver Creek Golf Course, Twin Falls Golf Course, Pipestem Golf Course and The Brier Patch Golf Course. Theatre

Founded in 1955, Theatre West Virginia has been entertaining patrons with their outdoor dramas ever since. A few of the live theatre productions include 'Honey in the Rock', 'Hatfields and McCoys','Music in the Mountains',and Disney's 'Beauty and The Beast'. The outdoor dramas begin early June and run through the beginning of September. Theatre West Virginia is only 10 minutes away from The Cabins at Pine Haven. Don't miss these exciting productions

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is an authentic coal mine that opened in the late 1800s. In 1953, the mine was donated to the city of Beckley and converted into a educational exhibit for the public. Visitors can now enjoy a tour of the coal mine and ride on the rails in authentic 'man cars',learn about the hand-loading days in low-seam coal through the progression to modern mechanization, and tour a representation of the early 20th century coal camp life. Tours runs from April to November. Don't forget to bring your jacket because the 30-45 minute tours can take you to depths reaching only 58 degrees. The Cabins at Pine Haven have a cabin named after this mine, "Old Beckley #9"

New River Gorge Bridge

Visit the world's second largest single arch steel span bridge and a testament to modern civil engineering. The south bound lanes are closed to traffic on the New River Gorge Bridge for Bridge Day, held the 3rd Saturday of October annually. This event draws in thousands of people to walk the bridge, watch the brave parachute and plunge off of the bridge, and to visit the variety of vendors located along the bridge's deck. Tamarack

Tamarack, 'The Best of West Virginia', features numerous artisans from around West Virginia that demonstrate their abilities daily, ranging from working with hand-carved furniture and textiles to glass and jewelry. The center showcases everything from West Virginia art to its unique culture and food. Live theatre, dance, musical performances and storytelling are scheduled throughout the year.
